EDITOR
This position is responsible for acquiring and editing books and learning resources in the Microsoft Press department of the OReilly Publishing division. The Editor drives efforts to support and expand Microsoft Press titles from inception through distribution. The Editor will oversee the smooth transition of projects from Microsoft Press to OReilly Media. Properly executed, this position contributes significant publishing revenue to the organization while maintaining Microsoft Press standards and helping establish new standards for the Microsoft Press alliance with OReilly Media, Inc. The position reports to the Associate Publisher, and can be located in the greater Seattle area working from a home or remote office.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Work closely with MP contacts, both internal to Microsoft Press and to OReilly Media, as well as external contacts to both companies
Acquire MP authors; demonstrate effective development and management of multiple titles/projects and ensure that they publish on time and within budget; adjust release dates if needs arise; and communicate any pertinent changes with all associated internal partners
Sign and manage MP authors on non-book projects including articles, blog posts and other e-content initiatives
Make occasional visits to MP offices in Washington during and after transition, as needed
Work with ORM personnel on evangelism in MS Press topic areas, including blogging and finding material for posting on ORM and partner sites
Work with ORM personnel on conference-based activities, including accessing MS Press based talent and support
Work with ORM marketing personnel to develop, vet, review, and revise all marketing copy and materials, including cover copy and front/back matter in published materials; help ensure successful launch campaigns
Manage content providers, reviewers, and freelancers as needed
Serve as in-house advocate for authors titles; work with PR, design, sales, and marketing to create a cohesive publishing effort for each title

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
4-year college degree in English, communications, publishing, computer science, or relevant field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience in a related field
5+ years experience as editor in technology topic areas
3+ years supervisory experience
Experience developing and managing budgets for book projects
Experience supervising staff in the book publishing field
Experience developing authors and maintaining collaborative working relationships
